XI PHILOSOPHY CONFERENCE (27-28 FEBRUARY 2003)
Thomas Aquinas and the Subject of Metaphysics — Findings and Issues

Various sectors of contemporary philosophy are witnessing a renewal of interest in classical metaphysics, including the thought of Thomas Aquinas. Much of Thomas’s metaphysical teaching is well known. Yet research continues to yield important exegetical results; and these raise serious philosophical questions on such fundamental themes as the nature of metaphysics, its possibility as a science, and the way to understand its proper subject matter, being. The aim of the conference is to consider some of the more recent findings on Thomas’s basic understanding of metaphysics, and to discuss both its historical significance and its philosophical cogency.
The work will be divided into four areas, each with two lectures and a roundtable discussion. There will also be sessions for contributed papers, which should be submitted in both printed and electronic format (floppy disk or email) by January 30, 2003. The Scientific Committee will decide upon the papers to be published in the conference proceedings.
